This day was held to pay tribute to the dedication of social care workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, reflecting on the challenges of the pandemic and remembering those we sadly lost during this time.
Sadly, an estimated 969 social care workers in England tragically lost their lives between March 2020 and September 2021.
Social Care Day of Remembrance and Reflection was held to say thank you and well done to the people working in social care who played a vital role in keeping our communities as safe and well as possible during difficult times, and to set aside time to specially acknowledge the important work that our social care sector does.
The day was organised by 麻豆原创 alongside 20 other partners.
Remembrance and Reflection event
A special event was held on the day to pay tribute to our social care workforce. The event washeld in London and streamed virtually to hundreds of people signed up to attend online.
The event provided an opportunity to say a simple thank you to all those social care workers who provided care and support during these tough times, = to reflect on what everybody working together has achieved, and to remember and pay tribute to those we have lost.
Minister of Health and Social Care Gillian Keegan attended to lead the tributes and thank you messages. Representatives, working at all levels from across the sector were invited to share their own experiences of the pandemic, and personal reflections. The event concluded with a series of poems dedicated to the social care workforce and a minute’s silence.
We will be sharing the poems on our website shortly.
Remembrance and Reflection film
We have created a special film to share stories from people working across different settings in social care, discussing their experiences during the pandemic which was screened at our event on 17 March 2022.
Memorial Wall and Tribute Wall
We’ve o created a Memorial Wall and Tribute Wall which are being hosted on the Care Workers’ Charity website. The walls are a place for people's stories about and tributes to social care workers to be gathered to say thank you for the commitment and sacrifices our social care workforce has made.
This is also a place to leave a special memorial tribute to anyone who has been sadly lost during the pandemic and to pay your respects and share your memories.
